I’m eager to sew more — really ready. I’ve spent a lot of time on the computer this year — a fact that’s reflected in the arrangement of my studio. My computer table has been in a prime position and easily accessed. Extra papers, packages and put-aways have accumulated on the neglected sewing table, further securing the table’s second billing. I have a brand new Bernina Artista 640 that I’ve only used twice so far (to make this and these) and a complete set of Isacord thread that I have yet to unbox and find a place for. They’ve been nagging at me like bored and hungry children, “Play with me. Feed me.” Well, enough already! It’s time to rearrange my studio.
Okay, so I dropped what I was working on and spent a good chunk of the week shuffling furniture. I was hoping to find a configuration that would allow more workspace for sewing and better storage, yet make space for my computer to stay in the room. Sounds possible, right? But, days later, I’ve moved armoires and tables and a chest of drawers and I still haven’t figured it out! *so frustrating* We’ve been to several stores in pursuit of a tempting solution as well. In my mind now, the furniture options are waltzing around the room as I try to sort out the arrangement. Not the worst problem to have, true, but I have other things to do than spin in circles. That being said, I’ve decided to roost on it, at least for a couple of days — let it be.
Also, let me add that the fabulous collection of thread comes from the ever-generous Elinor, my mother in law. She spoils me and then she spoils me again. Elinor is teaching her first online class over at Cloth Doll Connection — now anyone in the world can see what the fuss is all about: flat fairies, indeed. Love you, mom, thanks!

One question- how do I get my hands on an “elinor?” sheesh- can you send one my way? What a fabulous Mother-in-law!!
Oh that pile of thread – it’s like a big box of candy ! Lucky you to have such a wonderful mother in law. Mines great too and I love her but she’s never sent me a big box of thread !
Wow – what a clever knot! I will have remember that to avoid having gigantic lumps sitting at the end of my seams.
ooooh, elinor is one of my all time heroes, I’m so glad you linked to her blog!! The knot tutorial is wonderful – I can’t remember who taught me to make this knot, but I use it all the time. But there’s no way I could ever explain it as clearly as you have done!
What an incredibly talented family you married into–you are a perfect fit! My family is terribly crafty, but not on a professional scale. I am in awe. 🙂
The elinor dolls are marvelous!
I’d love to transform my breakfast area, with the computer desk (read: old childhood walnut kneehole desk) and the large breakfast table into a workroom space with a big ole inexpensive (relatively speaking) Ikea workbench/countertop thing with chairs/stools around it.
Ideally, I’d love one of these
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15576&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=18342&langId=-1&categoryId=15732&chosenPartNumber=14631607
and one of these:

but they’re sort of narrow across the top (25 inches isn’t really big for sewing space).
I’d also choose a big ole farm table over desk and separate sewing space, I think. One day.
Wwwwwwow! A whole set of Isacord? I thought I was doing great with my collection of 26 colors (about three shades in each color family). Well, it’s not bad for starters. I just got an Aurora 430E and the embroidery is SO addictive. Too bad I now need a new laptop to run the software, since our 4-year old desktop is a wee bit too slow!
I’m looking forward to seeing what you create with your new machine.
oh good luck getting your studio just right. you how people like to imagine what they would do with lottery money? i have a fabulous craft room built in my head… cant wait to see what you come up with!
